    This sites includes information about a variety of literary movements including Calvinism, Travel Narratives, Captivity Narratives, and Domestic Fiction. Information about each includes characteristics, authors, and techniques of the genre.

    A collection of links to sites mainly about English and American literature. Arranged by categories or searchable by single keyword.

  • Bookreporter
    Browse by category or search for recent book reviews, excerpts, and author interviews, done just for the Bookreporter. Reviews range from a paragraph to a page with the longer reviews being signed.
  • Online Literary Criticism Collection
    Links the user to over 1,000 critical and biographical web sites on literary criticism dealing with American and British literature from pre-1500 to the twentieth century. Each literary link displayed is annotated and can be accessed by author, work or literary period.
  • Poets & Writers Online
    This online version of the Directory of American Poets and Fiction Writers contains almost 4,000 names and addresses. Also includes online conferences, literary programs and articles on writing and publishing.

Authors and Literary Criticism: Specialized Subject Areas
  • American Authors on the Web
    Comprehensive and up-to-date directory of American authors. It's arranged chronologically by authors' dates. Use your browser's Find button to search by name.
  • Celebration of Women Authors
    An excellent list of women writers with pointers to online selected works and biographies. Indexed by name of author and country of origin and country written about. There's also a list of other online resources for and about women writers.
  • Mississippi Writers
    A searchable site "about writers in, from, or otherwise associated with the state of Mississippi," including William Faulkner, Shelby Foote, John Grisham, Eudora Welty, Richard Wright, Tennessee Williams, puppeteer Jim Henson, civil rights activist Medgar Evars, and others. The site lists over 280 authors. There is also a timelines, literary news, and lists of Mississippi periodicals and publishers.
  • Native American Authors
    Another site by the Internet Public Library. This sites features "Native North American authors with bibliographies of their published works, biographical information, and links to online resources including interviews, online textx and tribal web sites." Browsing can be done by author, title of work, or tribe. The emphasis is on contemporary Native American authors, although some historical authors are included.
  • Shakespeare Study Guides
    A good website for users wanting to read Shakespeare in modern English. All publications are free, but hard copies are available for purchase.
  • Surfing with the Bard
    Information about Shakespeare and his writings.
