Patriot Day, National Day of Service and Remembrance Mark 9/11 Anniversary

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, PA, on this date 13 years ago. We also recognize those who sacrificed in our nation’s service subsequent to the terrorist attacks. By Presidential proclamation, today is Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance.

On this day, we hope our campus community reflects on these victims and their loved ones who continue to feel their loss. A common refrain following the attacks was “united we stand.” One of Cypress College’s core values is “inclusiveness” which is defined on campus as “a community that embraces diverse individuals; provides an accessible, supportive climate; and encourages a variety of perspectives and opinions.” As an institution focused on expanding thought, we hope this anniversary provides motivation to build understanding and increase our awareness of the diversity in our campus and extended communities.
