The Middle East & Beyond – Two Highly Recommended Courses for Spring 2016

Enhance your understanding of current events and intercultural exchange through the study of Middle Eastern history (Professor David Halahmy) and Arabic literature (Professor Randa Wabe). Cypress College is pleased to offer two highly-demanded, exceptionally-taught courses that will help you make better sense of today’s interconnected social, political, and religious landscape. – No god but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam by UC Riverside professor Reza Aslan.
– Also, an enlightening conversation with Professor Aslan – Islam’s Reformation.
– Lost History: The Enduring Legacy of Muslim Scientists, Thinkers, and Artists by Michael Morgan.
– A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini – an excellent book that traces the lives of two Afghani women from the Soviet invasion to the rise of the Taliban.
– The Middle East, a History by Ochsenwald and Fisher.
– And finally, Fordham University’s “Internet Jewish History Sourcebook” and Internet Medieval Sourcebook, Selected Sources: Islam.
