Faculty

Computer/digital forensics faculty are all experienced educators and/or practitioners, bringing a plethora of knoweldge for the learning experience.

Director of Computer/Digital Forensics
Nhan "Mike" Nguyen
Mr. Nguyen has an M.S. in Forensic Studies from Stevenson University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineer from California State University, Long Beach. Mike has over 10 years of experience in electrical design engineering and over 12 years of computer forensics experience with an extensive background in the field of digital forensics. Mike works for the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) as a Senior Computer Forensic Examiner / Technical Officer. He is currently assigned to the Orange County Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (OCRCFL), which is a ASCLD/LAB accredited laboratory. As a senior forensic computer examiner, he has conducted hundreds of extensive digital forensic examinations, peer reviews, technical reviews, administrative reviews and case assignments. He has also been involved in training and mentoring numerous digital forensic examiners (Federal, State, and Local) in computer and mobile forensics, tool testing and validation, software updates, and budgetary recommendations. Mike has multiple certifications such as the FBI's Senior Computer Forensic Examiner, Senior Mobile Device Examiner, JTAG Examiner, Forensic Audio/Video Examiner and Digital Video Recorder Examiner. Additional certifications inlcude: CFCE, CompTIA (A+ / Network +), AccessData Certified Examiner (ACE), EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE), BlackBag Certified Examiner (CBE), GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner (GCFE) and Cellebrite Advanced Smartphone Analysis (CASA).

Instructors
Faith Hogan
Mrs. Hogan has been involved in the Computer Forensics program since 2009. She was part of the first group to get certified in Computer Forensics at Cypress College. She has 35 years in education and has been part of the Computer Forensics teaching staff at Cypress since 2012. Faith has a MS in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University and a BA in Education from Dordt College.

Tom Bruce
Mr. Bruce began his career with the Cypress Police Department in 1988. Tom rose through the ranks first serving as a police officer, then corporal and then promoted to sergeant. In 2013, Tom advanced to the position of Police Commander. During Tom's career, he has served in a variety of assignments, to include the Criminal Investigations Bureau as a detective. In 2000, Tom was instrumental in bringing digital technology into the bureau, and developed the department's first digital forensics program. From 2013 to 2015, Tom served as the Criminal Investgiations Division Commander, which included overseeing the Cypress Crime Lab and digital forensics program. Under his command, Tom was responsible for overseeing all criminal investigative efforts, to include management of the Crime Lab specifically related to digital forensics. Tom further enhanced the Crime Lab digital technology by aquiring some of the latest industry standard digital forensics tools, further developing the in-house digital forensics capabilities. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Education and Master of Arts in Emergency Management from California State University, Long Beach.

Sang Nguyen
Dr. Sang Nguyen has a Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University, a M.S. in Computer Systems Management from University of Maryland, and a B.A. in Speech Communications from San Jose State University. Dr. Nguyen has his CISSP and CISA certifications. He has over 15 years of experience in systems design, project management, and cyber security with the Department of Defense. He currently works for the Department of the Navy At the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, as an IT Program Director, and manages their information technology and cyber security programs. His current research areas are in TAM, HCI, institutional research, and the digital divide.
