Hi! I’m the Career Center Coordinator at Cypress College. I’ve had the good fortune of doing this particular line of work since 1996 and even greater luck to have been a member of the Cypress College Team since 1980. Through these years, my career has journeyed many roads. Some roads have been smooth and others rich with obstacles and challenges, but I wouldn’t change a thing. My knowledge, skills and abilities have grown and evolved with each encounter. I’m truly grateful to each and every student, coworker, boss and friend I’ve met at Cypress College.

When I was in 5th grade, my instructor asked me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”  I knew exactly what I would say. I’d played at being a school teacher since I could talk. I made my own grade books and assignments and tortured my friends with play-homework.  So, I looked my instructor in the eye and proudly said, “I’m going to be a teacher." He looked me square in the eye and said, “Oh, there won’t be any jobs available by the time you graduate college." Poof! My dream was gone. From that moment forward I didn’t set career goals because I didn’t want to be disappointed again, or have my dreams snatched from my grasp.

So, while I was busy NOT making plans, I discovered my interests, figured out my values, understood my personality, enhanced my skills, and I discovered a career for myself that allows me to do most of the things I enjoy. I even have the opportunity to “teach” in a variety of non-traditional ways. In my role as Career Center Coordinator I’ve helped to create an environment where:

  • people can dream
  • goals can be explored
  • decisions made
  • interests, values, skills and personality identified, and
  • tools and resources for lifelong learning can be used to their fullest.

I don’t want anyone to have their career goals dashed so I invite you to visit the Career Planning Center to feel supported on your path and prepare you with the knowledge and tools to achieve your goals.
