Cypress Starts Slow but Picks up the Scoring to Defeat Southwestern

Cypress, Calif. - It seemed like it would be another defensive battle as Cypress was tied at one with Southwestern to enter the sixth inning before the Chargers belted in another 8 runs to defeat the Jaguars 9-3. Sophomore pitcher Wes Etheridge kept the Jaguars at one run by keeping them hitless in over four innings of work notching his second win of the season to go 2-0.
Southwestern and Cypress both scored one run each in the second as sophomore Mike Vass stole home. The score was all knotted up until the sixth when the Chargers brought home two more as Brandon Laird had a two-RBI double to score Garrett Young and Mike Evola. The scoring exploded in the eighth as the Chargers went through four of the Jaguars’ pitchers to score six runs including a two run RBI by Mike Vass.
Cypress is taking a day off before facing the 4-7 College of the Canyons. The teams will face off at 2:00 pm at Cypress on Thursday.
