Cypress, Calif. - San Diego City came to Cypress looking for revenge after their loss to the Chargers earlier this month. The result came out virtually the same as the Chargers defeated the Knights 8-2. Sophomore Matt Miller hit a three-run home in the third to deal a blow to San Diego City early. Miller went three for four on the day including his first home-run of the season and a double to tally 4 RBIs.
The Chargers never let San Diego get into the game as they opened the scoring in the first inning. Sophomore Garrett Young scored on an error before sophomore shortstop Taylor Green batted in Garret Green on a triple. Taylor Green scored in the third off of a Matt Wallach single before Miller’s three-run homer to get the Chargers a commanding 6-0 lead. Taylor Green had another good day at the plate as he went 2 for 4. The Knights’ bats woke up as they scored one in the fourth and one in the seventh for their only two scores of the game. The Charger scoring ended in the seventh when Miller’s double scored Ben Ornelas and Joel Weeks singled to score Miller. Ornelas had his best game thus far going 2 for 4 including a double and a triple while Weeks ended the game with two singles and an RBI. Sophomore pitcher David Stokes notched his first win of the season in 8 innings of work allowing 1 earned run and striking out three. Freshman Brandon Laird had a single to increase his hit streak to 10 games.
The Chargers look forward to tomorrow where they hope to sweep their four-game home series with a win over Chaffey. The teams will face off Saturday at 1:00 pm at Cypress.
