February 18, 2006

Final Stats

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress took the game from Chaffey in the first inning with 5 runs and did not let up as the Chargers defeated the Panthers 15-4. Cypress scoring was highlighted by two Charger homeruns. Sophomore Taylor Green belted in a 2 run homer in the fifth. Green leads Cypress so far this year in homeruns with 3. Green ended the game 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Sophomore Matt Miller was not to be outdone as he hit his second straight home run for the Chargers. Miller’s solo homer came in the fourth. Miller finished 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, a double, and 2 runs.

Cypress made it look like a batting exhibition as they managed 16 hits off of Chaffey pitchers. Second baseman Garret Green and centerfielder Mike Evola were both 2 for 3 on the day. Bubba Ruddy, Mike Vass, and Kenny Lusk all notched doubles against Chaffey in a combined effort of 4 at bats. Chaffey would not score until the sixth inning when Cypress already had 12 total runs. Right hand pitcher Mark Serrano started the game and earned his first win of the season pitching 5 innings with 7 strikeouts giving up 2 earned runs. Sophomore Sean Kalmen came in to pitch 3 innings striking out 3 batters. Freshman Casey Arbiso came in to close in the ninth.
