Final Stats
Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach City scored one run early and it was enough to defeat the Chargers 1-0. The Charger and Vikings pitchers battled allowing a combined 9 hits and two walks. Josh Tamba pitched a complete game allowing just 5 hits (all singles) and one walk. Tamba’s game was not enough as he was dealt a loss to bring his record to 2-1.
The Viking’s only run came in the second as a Long Beach runner advanced from first to third on a stolen base and then a wild pitch before being batted in by a sacrifice fly. The Chargers’ best chance to tie came in the third when sophomore Matt Wallach advanced to third off of a Mike Vass single with no outs. Both runners were stranded as the Vikings retired the next three batters in a row. Wallach and Vass were two of the four batters who notched a hit this game. Sophomores Garrett Green and Matt Miller also had singles.
Cypress will regroup to face off with El Camino on Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm at home. This is the first meeting with El Camino this year. El Camino is 6-7 this year.
