Chargers Rally for Victory over El Camino

Cypress, Calif. - It looked grim for the Chargers as they were down 3 runs going into the sixth before rallying with offense and defense to win. El Camino were the victims of the Charger rally as Cypress won 10-5. Sophomore Matt Wallach came in to go 2 for 3 including a double and 2 RBIs.
El Camino started on fire scoring three runs in the first. Cypress answered back in the first with two runs as Garrett Young scored when Taylor Green grounded out and then Brandon Laird scored off of a Matt Miller RBI. The Chargers went on a scoring drought as the Warriors kept going bringing the score to 5-2 going into the bottom of the sixth. The Chargers woke up in the sixth scoring 4 runs pass the Warriors. Laird scored again off of a Joel Weeks single. Mike Vass then scored off of a Blaine Wilson single. Wilson and Weeks scored next off of Wallach’s single to end the scoring for the inning. The momentum continued in the seventh when the Chargers increased their lead as Taylor Green scored off of Miller’s sacrifice fly. Cypress got a few insurance runs in the eighth as Garrett Green singled to score Wallach and Ben Ornelas before Garrett Green scored on walks. Warrior batters were shutout after the fifth as Nick Rhodes notched his fourth win to go 4-0 on the season and Wes Etheridge notched his first save of the season.
Cypress moves on to Saturday’s game against Oxnard College for the second in a three game home series. This is the first meeting this year between the two teams. They will face off at noon on Saturday.
