Another Offensive Exhibition as Cypress Defeats Golden West

Huntington Beach, Calif. - Charger bats could not be stopped again as they get their second 14 run game in a row to defeat Golden West 14-6. Cypress is now 3-0 and holding first place in the Orange Empire Conference. Freshman Brandon Laird went 2 for 4 against Rustler pitchers including a solo homerun and a double. Laird is leading the Chargers at the plate batting .442.
Golden West took the lead early with a run in the first but Cypress was unfazed as they came right back with 2 runs in the second as freshman catcher Brandon Ruddy doubled to sophomores Blaine Wilson and Mike Vass. The Rustlers came back to tie it in the third with a run at 2-2. The Chargers added 2 in the fourth as Ruddy got his third RBI batting in third baseman Joel Weeks. Leadoff hitter Garrett Young then singled to score Ruddy.
Cypress bats heated up in the fifth. Vass had a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to score Laird. Wilson singled to score sophomore shortstop Taylor Green, and then Wilson and Miller scored on an error. Young finished the inning with a single to score Ruddy to complete the inning with 5 runs on 3 hits.
Golden West tried to come back at Cypress and had 3 runs in the sixth to bring the score to 9-5. The Chargers added some insurance runs in the eighth with four more runs. Sophomore Garrett Green had a sacrifice fly to score Young. Laird then scored on his solo homerun. Freshman Ben Ornelas came in for a 2 RBI single to score pinch runner Justin Ariki and Taylor Green. The Chargers added one more in the ninth as freshman Grant Rachlin doubled to score freshman Eddie Agredano. Sophomore David Stokes earned his second win this season in 5.1 innings of work.
Cypress takes a day off before hosting their first conference game of the season against a tough Santa Ana squad. The Dons are 13-5 overall with a 2-1 conference record. The teams will face off Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm at Cypress.
