Chargers Hit Their Way into the Final Four

Cypress heads to the State Championship tournament for the second year in a row.

Santa Ana, Calif. - Cypress was one victory away from their second straight appearance at the final four. After stumbling against L.A. Harbor earlier in the day, the Chargers rallied for a 10-3 blowout win to earn their ticket to Fresno. The Chargers produced twelve hits including three two run home runs for the victory. Freshman left fielder
Michael Nesbitt led the way with a double and a home run while going 3 for 4 on the day for two RBI.
Harbor had their chance first and started with their only earned run off of three hits. Cypress wasted no time taking the lead with a two run inning. With two outs down, sophomore third baseman
Brandon Laird doubled to left followed by Nesbitt’s home run to take the lead. Cypress continued with another two run homer in the second. Freshman first baseman
A.J. Smith reached on a single up the middle followed by freshman shortstop
Tyler Marmion’s two run shot.
The Seahawks would not manage another run until the fifth off a Cypress error. The Chargers were unfazed continuing their two run home run pattern. Sophomore second baseman
Bryan Resnick singled through the left side and sophomore right fielder
Marco Martelli reached on a walk followed by a walk by Smith. Martelli and Smith moved to second and third off a sacrifice bunt from Marmion. Sophomore catcher
Bubba Ruddy took advantage with a single up the middle for two more runs. The Chargers were not done with the inning as Resnick doubled to right center for two men on. Laird added another two runs with a single to left for Cypress’s tenth and final run.
L.A. Harbor would add another in the seventh but it was not enough as Cypress held on for the win. Freshman
Mike Pratali earned the win in his first decision of the year. Pratali allowed seven hits in six and a third innings allowing just one earned run. Jason Schnitzer, Ryan Rosenhahn, and Casey Arbiso finished it off for Cypress combining for two strike outs and no hits in the next two and two-thirds innings.
Cypress improves to 29-20 and is headed to the Final Four in Fresno next weekend. The Chargers will most likely face the number one seed in the North, Sacramento City. Sac City is 35-13 on the season and got to the State Championship tournament with a 9-3 win over Sierra. The two will face off next Saturday at Fresno City College.
