Las Vegas, Nev. - After suffering their first loss of the season, Cypress had no time to rest in order to bounce back to face another Utah team, Eastern Utah. The Chargers fell behind early but took the lead in the middle innings, held off a Utah rally, and won 7-5. Freshman right-hander Thomas Hoenshell led Cypress pitching four hitless innings keeping the Golden Eagles at Bay.

Cypress had a rough go of it early leaving a man on third and a man on second in the first and second innings respectively unable to score. The Eagles got on the board in the second in a long inning scoring two runs. With the bases loaded and just one out retired, freshman right-hander Colby Hyatt came in to stop the bleeding forcing a fly out and a strikeout to stop the bleeding.

With Eastern Utah up 2-0 to start the third, Cypress started scoring. With two outs down, freshman catcher Jonathan Hurst put up a double and scored on an error on the next batter. The Golden Eagles matched with a third inning run of their own bringing the score to 3-1.

After a scoreless third, Cypress put up a big inning in the fourth to take the lead. Freshman right fielder Tyler Brady led the inning off with a walk followed by a single from sophomore shortstop Tyler Marmion. Hurst made it two in a row with a single to load the bases. Sophomore designated Hitter AJ Smith brought in the first run with an RBI ground out. Nesbitt scored Marmion next with a sacrifice fly tying the game at three. Sophomore right fielder Brian Burke came off the bench to make a difference belting a two-run homer over the fence giving Cypress the 5-3 lead.

Cypress kept it up in the sixth with a couple more. Freshman left fielder Brad Woodend singled to left and Brady reached when he was hit by a pitch. Marmion moved both runners over with a sacrifice bunt and Hurst produced his third straight hit with a two RBI single for a 7-3 lead. The Chargers stopped scoring from there but Eastern Utah was not going to give up. The Golden Eagles put up one final fight in the ninth with two more runs but it was not enough.

Hyatt earned his first collegiate win improving to 1-0. He pitched two-and-two-third innings allowing one earned run on four hits and struck out four.
