Riverside, Calif. - The Chargers headed out to Riverside Thursday for a rematch of the 2007 State Championship game. Cypress was fighting to hold on to sole possession of fourth but came up short losing 8-2 falling into a fourth place tie with Riverside. Freshman left fielder Jonathan Hurst led Cypress scoring both of the Charger runs while going two for four at the plate.

Freshman starter Matt Wolfrom and the Charger defense did a good job of keeping the Tigers scoreless through the first three innings stranding three runners. Trouble started in the fourth allowing the lead-off man on to score. Riverside produced a two-run homer in the fifth jumping out to the 3-0 lead.

Cypress got on the board in the top of the sixth. After the first out, Hurst singled to left and moved to third with a double to right center by sophomore shortstop Tyler Marmion. Hurst scored on the next batter as sophomore right fielder Michael Nesbitt hit into an RBI ground-out. Cypress held Riverside scoreless in the sixth stranding a runner on third as they were behind just two runs with comeback hopes alive. The Tigers quickly dashed those hopes piling on five runs in the seventh to bury Cypress.

The Chargers had one breath left in them with a run in the eighth. Hurst led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a ground out. Nesbitt hit into an error and Hurst was able to score for the second and final Charger run.
