Cypress Comes Back with Homeruns

Final Stats
Palm Desert, Calif. - The Chargers closed out their three game series at College of the Desert taking on the host Roadrunners. Cypress completed a sweep with their third straight win squeezing out a 6-5 win over their hosts. Freshman third baseman Dimitri DeLaFuente had two homeruns on the day including the game winning homerun in the eighth.
Cypress dug themselves into a hole early allowing all five of Desert’s runs in the first two innings. Freshman Gabe Garcia came in to pitch late in the second to shut down the Roadrunners. Garcia pitched 6.1 innings allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out five runners. Garcia earned the win improving to 1-1
The Chargers chipped in their first run in the third and then sophomore first baseman Stephen Kaupang hit a two run homerun in the fifth to cut the Roadrunner lead to two. Cypress scored again in the sixth off of DeLaFuente’s first homerun and then Cypress scored the tying run in the seventh. DeLaFuente played hero in the eighth with the game winning homerun while Rush held Desert scoreless. Freshman Matt Rush came in to hold Desert scoreless in the eighth and ninth earning his second save of the season.
Cypress improves to 6-2 and returns home for a four game home stint. Cypress will start with San Diego Mesa on Tuesday. The Chargers have already defeated the Olympians once this year 11-3 at Mesa. The two meet up again at Cypress Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
