Charger Errors Costly in Loss to Cuesta

San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Cypress finally made it up to San Luis Obispo Wednesday afternoon to take on Cuesta. The Charger defense failed them giving up three errors and eight unearned runs in the 11-5 loss. Freshman pitcher Gabriel Garcia led Cypress through the middle innings allowing just one hit in four innings of work while striking out four.

The Chargers got punished early on allowing six unearned Cuesta runs in the second. Cypress cut the lead in half with three in the third. Sophomore right fielder Christian Ramirez doubled and freshman shortstop Johnathan Morales singled. Sophomore first baseman Stephen Kaupang scored the first three runs with his homerun.

Cypress inched closer with a run in the fourth. Freshman second baseman Mike Barnhill singled and later scored off a bases loaded walk. Cuesta got right back scoring three more in the fourth for the 9-4 lead. The Chargers could muster only one more run in the sixth. Barnhill reached on a walk and eventually scored off of Morales’s RBI single.

Sophomore Jayson Huett suffered the loss pitching the first three innings allowing three earned runs off six hits while striking out three. Garcia took the last four innings allowing just a hit and two walks.

Cypress falls to 22-11 and has no time off as they stay in San Luis Obispo to take on Fresno. The two face off at Cal Poly SLO Thursday at 11:00 am.
