Chargers Shut out the Rams

Final Stats
San Luis Obispo, Calif. - Cypress capped off their spring break trip up the coast taking on Fresno. After two losses, the Chargers came back for a narrow 2-0 shutout win over the Rams. Sophomore Matt Wolfrom earned his first win of the season improving to 1-0. He pitched 3.1 innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.
Freshman Stephan Kungl earned his first pitching appearance for Cypress holding the Rams scoreless in the first 2.1 innings allowing three hits and one walk. Meanwhile, Cypress struggled to score as well until finally breaking through in the fifth. Freshman third baseman Dimitri DeLaFuente doubled and moved to third on a ground out. Freshman centerfielder Jordan Foreman brought him in with a sacrifice bunt for the first run of the game.
Freshman Ray Hanson took over for Wolfrom after the middle innings allowing just one hit but no walks in 2.1 innings. Cypress added an insurance run in the sixth with a solo homerun off the bat of sophomore first baseman Stephen Kaupang.
With the two run lead heading into the ninth, freshman Travis Garrett came in to close. After loading the bases off of three walks, Garrett cleaned up with two straight strikeouts to end the game with the Charger lead intact.
Cypress improves to 23-11 and has the weekend off before returning home for conference action. The Chargers will start a two game series Tuesday at Fullerton against the Hornets. Cypress defeated Fullerton earlier this season 12-6. They face off again Tuesday at 2:00 pm at Fullerton.
