Final Stats

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress hosted Fullerton Thursday in their third matchup of the year. The Chargers scored in bunches on the way to a 13-5 blowout of the Hornets. The blowout is a stark difference from these same teams’ 13 inning marathon earlier this week. Sophomore first baseman Jonathan Hurst led the Chargers going three-for-five with three RBI.

Neither team could get a runner on until the third. Sophomore center fielder Rick Eisenberg led off the third for Cypress with a walk. Freshman second baseman Mike Barnhill immediately cashed in with a double down the left field line for the first run on the board as Eisenberg scored. Barnhill progressed to third on a passed ball and then scored with a single up the middle by freshman shortstop Johnathan Morales. Sophomore right fielder Christian Ramirez produced the third straight hit with a single and sophomore catcher Parker Berberet loaded the bases on a walk. A bases loaded walk by freshman designated hitter Corey Levier scored Morales and a single by Hurst scored Ramirez. Freshman third baseman Dimitri DeLaFuente marked the ninth Charger batter in the inning and hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Berberet for the 5-0 lead.

Cypress put together a two out rally in the fourth. Ramirez walked and freshman left fielder David Silvas singled. Both advanced a base off a balk and Berberet drove in both with a single through the left side. Levier walked to move Berberet to second and Levier brought him home with a single for a commanding 8-0 lead.

The Chargers put together another two out rally in the fifth. Morales walked and Ramirez reached on a single before Silvas belted a ball deep over the centerfield fence to hit double digit runs 11-0.

Meanwhile, on the defensive end, freshman Ray Hanson carried a no-hitter through the sixth inning until finally giving up a single. Fullerton capitalized with a homerun to get on the board for two runs. The Hornets added a few in the seventh for five runs.

Cypress got back to scoring in the eighth. Berberet singled and Levier doubled and Hurst singled for two more runs and the 13-5 win.

Hanson earned the win allowing two earned runs and striking out four in 5.2 innings. He improves to 8-1 on the season.

Cypress improves to 25-11 and 13-4 in conference. They have a day off before hosting Saddleback for the first time this season. Cypress lost the Gauchos at Saddleback earlier this season 9-1. The Chargers will try it again Saturday at noon at Cypress.
