Final Stats
Riverside, Calif. - The regular OEC season ended Saturday as Cypress traveled to Riverside to take on the Tigers. Cypress avenged their loss from Thursday with a commanding 11-4 win. Cypress takes the series win over Riverside with two wins and a loss against RCC. Sophomore second baseman Garrett Leon led Cypress with a double and a triple and four RBI.
Cypress got going early with a hit and a hit batter by freshman right fielder Christian Ramirez and sophomore left fielder Jonathan Hurst respectively. Sophomore first baseman Stephen Kaupang drove in the first run with a single. Cypress hit into a double play next buy Hurst was able to score for the 2-0 lead.
Riverside came right back tying the score at two a piece after the first. The Tigers took the lead with a run in the second. Cypress broke it open in the third with six runs. Hurst, Kaupang, and sophomore catcher Parker Berberet hit three straight singles scoring a run. Freshman designated hitter Corey LeVier followed with a two run double. Sophomore center fielder Ricky Eisenberg was hit by a pitch and freshman third baseman Dimitri DeLaFuente singled loading the bases. Leon came through next with a triple to left center for three RBI clearing the bases for the 8-3 lead.
Cypress scored a couple more in the eighth. DeLaFuente was hit by a pitch and was replaced by freshman third baseman Stephan Kungl to run. Leon drove a double down the left field line to score Kungl and then scored off a single by Hurst.
The eleventh and final run by Cypress came in the ninth. LeVier walked and then scored off an Eisenberg double.
Sophomore Jayson Huett earned the win improving to 2-1. Huett allowed three earned runs in 6.1 innings. Freshman Matt Rush closed the final 2.2 innings allowing no hits and just one walk.
Cypress improves to 26-14 and 14-7 in conference in third place. Cypress will play in the opening round of the three game OEC Tuesday taking on Riverside again. They will face off Tuesday at a site TBA.
