Cypress, Calif. - After a strong start to the 2010 season, Cypress’s momentum has halted struggling both defensively and offensively. Cypress dropped its third straight Thursday afternoon in a lackluster 7-2 loss to Allan Hancock. Cypress outhit the Bulldogs 10-8 but walks and errors proved problematic for Cypress. Sophomore designated hitter Corey LeVier was a bright spot for Cypress picking up three hits and two RBI.
Cypress gave away a few runs early walking two and then allowing a three-run homerun. The Chargers attempted to keep pace and mustered a run in the first. Sophomore second baseman DC Legg doubled and then scored off an RBI double by LeVier.
The Bulldogs continued scoring while the Charger bats went silent. Cypress attempted a rally in the bottom of the eighth stringing together some offense for a their final run. With sophomore centerfielder Jordan Foreman on third after a walk and a single, Levier hit a single between the shortstop and the left fielder scoring Foreman.
Freshman starter Vince Payne suffered the loss falling to 1-2. Sophomore right-hander Ray Hanson pitched five innings allowing three earned runs.
Cypress (8-3) will get their chance at revenge on Saturday taking on the Bulldogs again. Cypress will host AHC Saturday at noon.
