Cypress Suffers First Conference Loss

Tanner Perkins Perkins had two RBI Friday afternoon.
The Chargers fall to 5-1 in conference.

March 12, 2010

Final Stats

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress hosted their third game of the week Friday taking on Saddleback for the first time this season. The Chargers put together one strong inning of scoring but fell short in the other eight losing 8-6 to the Gauchos. Freshman designated hitter Tanner Perkins picked up a two RBI double. Cypress committed four errors on the way to allowing three unearned runs.

Cypress started slow allowing Saddleback to jump out to a 4-0 lead after one-and-a-half. The Chargers answered with a second inning rally for six runs. After two singles and a hit batter, Perkins hit a two RBI single for Cypress’s first runs. Sophomore first baseman Stephan Kungl followed up with a sacrifice fly and sophomore right fielder David Silvas scored Perkins with a single. After another single, sophomore third baseman DC Legg drove in the final two runs of the inning giving Cypress the lead 6-4.

Cypress’s scoring ended there as Saddleback came right back scoring a run in the fifth and then taking the lead with two more in the sixth. The Gauchos distanced themselves as Cypress stranded six runners unable to score anymore in the 8-6 loss.

Sophomore Matt Rush suffered the loss falling to 1-1. He came in to relieve pitching 2.2 innings allowing two earned runs. Sophomore Gabriel Garcia started allowing three runs in 3.1 innings. Sophomore Travis Garrett closed in the final two innings allowing no hits and no runs.

Cypress (13-5, 5-1) has the weekend off before traveling to Orange Coast to take on the Pirates. OCC and Cypress were two of three 2009 OEC co-Champions. This will be their first meeting this season. The two meet at Orange Coast Tuesday at 2:00 pm.
