Huntington Beach, Calif. - Cypress headed to Golden West Saturday for an immediate rematch after suffering its third straight loss on Thursday. The Charger defense imploded on itself allowing four unearned Rustler runs on the way to an 8-7 loss. Sophomore designated Corey LeVier was a bright spot for Cypress going four-for-four on the day including two doubles for three runs scored.
Golden West scored first with a solo homerun but Cypress quickly answered in the top of the third. LeVier led off with a double and scored immediately off an RBI single by freshman first baseman Tanner Perkins.
The back-and-forth continued as the Rustlers got ahead with a run in the third before Cyrpess tied it again with a run in the fourth off of sophomore catcher Dimitri DeLaFuente’s solo homerun. Golden West matched the run again to get ahead and Cypress continued the pattern with a tying run in the fifth. With a man on, sophomore right fielder David Silvas tripled to tie it up 3-3.
GWC did not answer in the fifth and Cypress jumped ahead for its first lead with two runs in the sixth. LeVier led off again with a double. He reached third on a sacrifice bunt and home on an RBI error by sophomore center fielder Jordan Foreman. Sophomore third baseman DC Legg scored Foreman with a single and Cypress found themselves ahead 5-3.
Golden West would not fold scoring two in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a couple Charger errors to tie it up. Cypress followed with another two in the seventh. DeLaFuente doubled and scored off of LeVier’s RBI single. Levier reached third after an error and a stolen base and then scored off a sacrifice fly by sophomore pinch hitter Justin McGuire. As expected, Golden West immediately tied it up with two runs of its own 7-7.
Cypress went down in order in the eighth and Golden West took back its lead scoring what would become the winning run after two Cypress errors in the bottom of the inning giving GWC the 8-7 lead. The Chargers had their last shot in the ninth. With the bases loaded and just one out, the Chargers popped out and then struck out stranding all three runners and losing by one.

Cypress (13-8, 5-4) suffers its fourth straight loss. They have a few days to recover before returning home to host Irvine Valley. Cypress defeated the last place Lasers 8-0 the first time around. The Chargers will attempt to get back to winning Tuesday at Cypress at 2:00 pm.
