April 24, 2010

Final Stats

Mission Viejo, Calif. - Cypress took on Saddleback Saturday afternoon hoping to bounce back from two straight losses to Santa Ana and avenge and earlier loss to the Gauchos. The Chargers came through allowing just two Gaucho runs on the way to a 6-2 win. Sophomore pitcher Matt Rush led Cypress pitching seven innings and allowing just one earned run for the win. Rush struck out seven batters on the way to improving his record to 3-1.

The Chargers were able to score first with a solo homerun by sophomore left fielder Erik Hempe in the top of the second. Saddleback got back at Cypress with a run in the fourth to tie it up 1-1.

Cypress got on top again in the fifth with a string of hits. Sophomore catcher Dimitri DeLaFuente led off with a single and advanced to third off a Hempe double. DeLafuente tagged up and scored off a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman DC Legg for the 2-1 lead. Saddleback tied it up again scoring in the sixth.

The Chargers broke the tie in the seventh and stayed ahead. LeVier hit a solo homerun for the 3-2 lead. Cypress added two in the eighth. Legg led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt single from sophomore centerfielder Jordan Foreman. Legg scored off a sacrifice bunt by sophomore third baseman Stephan Kungl and foreman scored off a RBI ground-out by sophomore shortstop Johnathan Morales. Hempe added the sixth and final run in the ninth with his second solo homerun of the day.
