Cypress, Calif. - Cypress hosted possibly its last home game this season Thursday taking on Orange Coast. After losing to the Pirates earlier this year, the Chargers took game two defeating OCC 17-9. The win puts Cypress three games ahead of OCC. Sophomore centerfielder Jordan Foreman led Cypress with five RBI going two for five including a homerun and a triple.
The Chargers started slugging in the first. Freshman second baseman Bryan Aanderud batted in the first run. Aanderud later scored on an error. Sophomore left fielder Matt Avery drove in a run and scored on an error as well while freshman catcher Tanner Perkins drove in another giving Cypress a 5-0 lead after one.
The Pirates got on the board with a run in the second but Cypress kept plugging away with seven in the second. A three RBI triple by foreman and RBI singles by Avery and sophomore shortstop Johnathan Morales and an OCC error put Cypress up 12-1.
Orange Coast got its offense getting up to seven runs in the top of the fifth. Cypress kept its distance with a couple in the fifth thanks to RBI singles by sophomore third baseman Stephan Kungl and a sacrifice fly by Foreman.
Cypress piled on its last three runs in the seventh. Foreman got it going with a solo homerun followed by a two run homerun by sophomore designated hitter Corey LeVier. Sophomore starter Thomas Hoenshell earned the win pitching the first 6.2 innings improving to 10-1. Sophomore Gabriel Garcia closed allowing no runs in 2.1 innings.
Cypress (22-13, 13-6) has no time off as they finish the regular season tomorrow against Orange Coast again. The two will face off Friday at 2:00 pm at Orange Coast.
