February 28, 2008
Cypress, Calif. - Cypress baseball has a legacy of moving players on to successful collegiate and professional careers. This week was no different as two recent alumni were honored for their achievements. Garett Green, a Charger from 2005 to 2006, was named CollegeBaseballInsider.com’s National Player of the Week. Mark Serrano, a Charger in 2005 and 2007, was named the Summit League’s Pitcher of the Week.
Green, currently a senior at San Diego State, led the Aztecs to two wins in a three win series against San Diego batting .615 with two doubles, one triple, and two home runs for seven RBI and eight runs scored. Green’s honor comes a week after being named the Mountain West’s Conference Player of the Week.
Serrano, currently a junior at Oral Roberts, earned the honor after pitching for an upset win over Texas-San Antonio last week. He pitched 7.2 innings giving up just one hit and striking out three.
Cypress has moved 204 players on to play at four-year universities since 1985 including seven Division I All-Americans.
