Cypress, Calif. - The Orange Empire Conference honored their best and brightest Monday with their annual list for First and Second Team All-Conference. Cypress figured prominently on the list with five players honored. Sophomore shortstop Tyler Marmion was named to the first team while freshman outfielder Jonathan Hurst and freshman catcher Parker Berberet utilized impressive rookie performance to be named to the first team as well. Sophomore outfielder Michael Nesbitt made a repeat appearance on the second team list while sophomore first baseman AJ Smith debuted on the list.
Marmion was one of the best defensive players in conference leading the conference in assists (79). Offensively, Marmion hit .321 in conference with 12 RBI with a .426 on base percentage. Hurst was third in conference in hits (35), third in RBI (22), second in doubles (9), and seventh in conference in batting average (.389) as one of the conference leaders offensively. Berberet put up five homeruns in conference and was third in conference in slugging percentage (.642).
Cypress will rely on their all-conference performers as they prepare for playoffs. The Chargers will travel to Canyons and face the Cougars in the first round of the Southern California Regionals. The two meet up for the first of three possible games Friday at 2:00 pm at Canyons.
