Top Charger Performers Honored by Conference

Cypress, Calif. - The Orange Empire Conference honored their best and brightest with its annual list for First and Second Team All-Conference. Cypress figured prominently on the list with nine players honored including five first team and four second team selections. Sophomore relief pitcher Matt Rush was named to the first team and was joined by sophomore starting pitcher Thomas Hoenshell, sophomore shortstop Johnathan Morales, sophomore first baseman DC Legg, and sophomore designated hitter Corey LeVier.
Rush elevated from his second team selection in 2009 to the first team. He was ninth fourth in the conference in opposing batting average (.262) and ended conference with a 3-1 record. LeVier was also promoted from his second team selection last year to the first team. He was sixth in conference in doubles (12) and seventh in slugging percentage (.635). Hoenshell earned a spot on the first team leading the conference in wins with a 10-1 record and was fourth in strikeouts (67). Morales was second in conference in doubles (15) and eighth in RBI (32). Legg finished conference with a .362 average and 33 runs scored.
Cypress also added four players to the second team including sophomore pitchers Ray Hanson and Travis Garrett, sophomore catcher Dimitri DeLaFuente, and sophomore outfielder Eric Hempe.
Cypress will rely on their all-conference performers as they prepare for playoffs. The Chargers will host the first round of the Southern California Regionals against College of the Desert. The two meet up for the first of three possible games Friday at 2:00 pm at Cypress.
