PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE

During the next couple of year years, Cypress College will be experience heavy construction as part of our expansion. Please check this space regularly for updates, maps of affected areas, photographs and other goodies.

Projects Closure Maps

Student Center — The Student Center and companion Bookstoor will occupy the space around the campanile (the large tower on campus) along what used to be Lakeshore Drive. The larger of the two buildings will be adjacent to the Library/Administration Building and will wrap around the campanile. The smaller of the two will be built adjacent to the Business Building. It will be the Bookstore. The new Student Center complex will bring nearly all the student services (excluding those in the Library/Learning Resource Center) into one central location. They will include Admissions and Records, the Bursar and a number of other services. Food services will also be in the building, with dining along the pond. Between this project, the Student Activities Center, the Cypress College Complex and the new L/LRC, the pond will really become the center of campus. This project is being completed with Measure X funding (a local bond). More.

Maintenance & Operations — A building for Maintenance and Operations is being constructed in Parking Lot 6. This is the first time that all the staff will be centralized for the physical operation of our campus and it will move them from a variety of locations, including some temporary buildings that will be demolished. It is scheduled to open in Summer, 2006.

School of Continuing Education — A permanent building is being made for the School of Continuing Education. They are currently operating out of the temporary buildings that were used when the campus first opened in 1966. These temporary buildings will be removed and the new SCE building will be built in the same spot (near Parking Lot 4). The shape of the SCE building will be similar to the shape of the Student Center. This is also being done with Measure X funding.

Remodels — Classroom remodels are also part of the Measure X projects. They will be conducted at a variety of times and are intended to modernize our classrooms across the campus. During the summer of 2006, both the Business and Tech Ed 1 buildings will be closed for renovation. The work in the Business Building will not affect access to Admissions and Records or other services on the first floor of the building.

Piazza Renovation — The piazza, the college's second level, is being renovated in three phases. The overhaul will prevent leaks below, puddling on the pizza and will provide new railing. Phase 1, in the area between the Fine Arts and Cypress College Complex buildings, is scheduled for completion in Summer, 2006. Phase 2 will begin upon completion of the first phase. Phase 2 work will be conducted adjacent to Humanities and the Science/Engineering/Math buildings as well as above the Student Activities Center. The third phase will repair all remaining portions of the piazza.

Elevators — Three elevators are being installed on the south side of the college campus. They are located:

  1. Between Tech Ed 2 and Gym 2;
  2. Between Tech Ed 1 and the pool; and
  3. Adjacent to the Business Building.

The maps were updated on May 22, 2006 to reflect the latest pedestrian access.

The college appreciates your understanding as we construct new buildings to better support our educational mission. Additional construction and travel information is available on the maps page.
