What: Transforming Military Uniforms Into Handmade Paper

Where: Cypress College Art Gallery

Details: A workshop with Combat Paper is an opportunity to participate in the process of transforming military uniforms into handmade paper. Make paper from deconstructed military uniforms using techniques that mimic a centuries old craft. Activate the sheets with an innovative printmaking technique which OIF Army veteran and project-founder Drew Cameron describes as “Pulp Printing.”

There are no prerequisites to participate and all materials, including uniforms, are provided. The uniforms used come from fellow veterans who have donated their material for use in the project. If you have some of your own that you wish to contribute, additions are always welcome and will be added to a community batch of materials during the workshop.

The process is facilitated by Drew Cameron, who began his paper art practice shortly after leaving active duty in 2004. The work that you create will be yours once it is dry and you can make multiple blank sheets for future projects as well as unique prints.

Please note that papermaking is a wet process and pulp printing can sometimes stain, so dress accordingly.
