Chargers Blow Lead in Two Point Loss

Williams scored 19 points Friday.
Cypress could not hold on to second half lead.

Santa Monica, Calif. – The Chargers had no rest after a tough loss to Palomar heading to Santa Monica to play the Corsairs. Cypress held an eight point lead in the second half but could not hold on losing by two 53-55. Freshman guard Clinton Williams led the Chargers scoring a career high 19 points and grabbing 7 rebounds.

Cypress held a slim one point half time lead 30-29. Santa Monica jumped to a three point lead in the second half on a four point run but the Chargers bounced back to take the lead 40-39 at the nine minute mark. Cypress started to pull away jumping to an eight point lead, their largest in the game with just 3:41 left in the game. The Chargers could not hold off Santa Monica as they took back the lead quickly with just 1:33 left and held on for the win. Freshman guard Khalif Boyd was the Chargers’ second leading scorer keeping up his double-digit scoring streak with 11 points.

The Chargers will regroup for their home opener Wednesday against El Camino. El Camino is 2-3 this season coming off of a thirty point loss to Saddleback. The two face off Wednesday at 5:00 pm at Cypress.
