Chargers Falls to El Camino in Home Opener

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers hosted their first home game of the 2006-07 season hoping to pull down their second win. They put up a valiant effort taking the lead six times, but found themselves behind most of the game and where it counted in the end losing 58-64. Freshman guard Ted Wolf was a spark off the bench for Cypress coming in to score 13 points in just 15 minutes going five for six from the field and hitting 3 three-pointers.
El Camino took control in the first half allowing Cypress a brief one point lead. The Chargers battled from behind able to tie the score six times. The half ended with Cypress just two points behind the Warriors. The Chargers started the second half shooting with a three-point bucket from freshman guard Clinton Williams to take the lead by one. From there, the teams battled back and forth with seven lead changes until the 13:04 mark when El Camino took the lead for good. The Chargers were unable to close in on El Camino ending the game six points behind. El Camino won the game in the paint outscoring Cypress 34-24 from the key. Sophomore forward Jeff Comminey paced Cypress with 13 points and 3 assists. Freshmen guards Khalif Boyd and Williams both had 11 points a piece while Boyd picked up 4 steals. Freshman center Rodrigo Carbajal led Cypress on the boards with six.
Cypress has a week off before they host Rio Hondo. Rio is 0-5 so far this season coming off of a 39-67 loss to Riverside. The two face off Wednesday at 5:30 pm at Cypress.
