San Diego, Calif. – The Chargers kicked off their last pre-conference tournament Thursday at San Diego Mesa with a win. The Chargers picked up an early lead and barely hung on to beat Victor Valley 66-63 to move into the winner’s bracket. Freshman center
Rodrigo Carbajal notched one of two double-doubles for Cypress scoring a team high 16 points and 11 rebounds while also picking up 4 assists.
The Chargers came out strong coming out to a 41-21 halftime lead. Victor Valley came back in the second half to create an almost reverse outcome as the Rams scored 42 second half points and held Cypress to just 25. Victor Valley had a three point opportunity with just 20 seconds left in the game but missed while Carbajal picked up the rebound securing the win.

Kourtney Maxim was the second Charger with a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 boards going 6 for 7 from the field. Freshman guard

Eric Butler was the third Charger in double digits scoring with 10 points.
Cypress improves to 5-11 while moving on to the winner’s bracket of the San Diego Mesa tournament. San Diego Mesa is 3-9 coming off of a 62-60 win over East Los Angeles. The Chargers face the host team Friday at 6:00 pm at San Diego Mesa.
