Chargers Can’t Keep up with Hornets

Fullerton, Calif. – The Chargers headed to rival Fullerton Wednesday and could not catch up as the Hornets ran away with hot shooting as Cypress lost 60-74. Freshman guard Khalif Boyd scored a game and career high 24 points along with 11 rebounds for the double-double to lead Cypress.

Cypress took their first lead with the first basket with a tip in by freshman center Rodrigo Carbajal. Fullerton came back to tie it at two before Cypress took their second and last lead with a three-point bucket by Boyd. The Hornets took over from there with a string of three-pointers on a 21-3 run. The Hornets kept extending their lead from there shooting 55.6% from the field in the first half to go up 24 at halftime. Fullerton cooled in the second half, but the Chargers could not get their run going with their closest margin at fourteen where the game ended.

Freshman guard Eric Butler also collected a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with 3 assists. Jeff Comminey and Orlando Isais combined for 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Cypress returns home Friday to face the Lasers of Irvine Valley. IVC is 3-7 in conference in sixth place coming off of a six point win over OCC. The last time Cypress and IVC met, the Chargers lost by eighteen. Cypress hopes the home court will reverse their fortunes from last time as they face off again Friday at 7:30 pm.
