Cypress Paces Themselves to Blowout Win

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers hosted just their second home game of the season coming off of four straight losses on the road looking to break the streak. After a brief battle to start the game, Cypress started to pull away at a steady pace leading to an 83-61 point win over L.A. Harbor. Freshman guard Justin Nguyen came off the bench to hit five three-pointers on the way to 15 points and four assists.

The Chargers and Seahawks battled back and forth with Harbor taking the 12-10 lead at the 12:54 mark. Sophomore guard Eric Butler gave Cypress the lead with a three point bucket and Cypress never looked back pushing ahead to an 18 point lead at half, 42-24. The pace continued in the second half with the Chargers taking as much as a 38 point lead until Cypress eventually won by 22.

Freshman forward Sean Starkey led Cypress in scoring with 22 points including five three-pointers. Butler ended the game with 13 points going a perfect six for six from the field. Sophomore guard Khalif Boyd was the fourth Charger in double digits with eleven points and a game high eight steals.

Cypress improves to 5-8 and has just a day off before two straight games against L.A. teams. Cypress starts with 0-7 L.A. Pierce. Pierce is coming off of a 62-46 loss to Compton. Cypress will face off with Pierce Friday at 7:00 pm at L.A. City College.
