Chargers Fall in Road Battle

King scored 17 points Friday night.
Cypress ends pre-conference play with a 9-10 record.

Glendora, Calif. – Cypress had their hands full in their final pre-conference matchup Friday against the third ranked Owls of Citrus. The Chargers battled but could not keep up with the one-loss Owls falling 93-70. Freshman guard DuWayne King led the Chargers with 17 points, five steals, and five rebounds.

Cypress was behind from the start down 14 at half. The Chargers could not stop the Owls who average 95.5 points per game allowing Citrus to score another forty in the second half as the high scoring Owls finished with a 58.1% shooting percentage. Freshman forward Sean Starkey finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Justin Nguyen came off the bench to score ten points. Sophomore guard Eric Butler and Khalif Boyd combined to score 18 points and dish out five assists.

The Chargers finish the pre-conference schedule at 9-10 and prepare for the start of Orange Empire Conference Play. Cypress will start with the 8-10 Dons of Santa Ana. Santa Ana is on a three game win streak coming off of a 79-76 win over Victor Valley. The two will kick off the start of Conference Wednesday at 5:30 at Cypress.
