Santa Ana, Calif. – Cypress finished their crossover series Friday taking on the Panthers of Chaffey College. A tight game led to a double-overtime contest that left the Chargers two points down in the 106-104 loss. Sophomore forward John Staats led Cypress with 19 points off the bench including three three-pointers.
Both teams battled back and forth in regulation with Chaffey taking the late lead. With Chaffey up by five, freshman guard
Tim Austin hit a three-pointer to cut the Chaffey lead to two. Cypress was forced to foul and Chaffey hit one of two to increase their lead to three. Austin came through again with just one second left to send the game to overtime.
In the second overtime, Cypress took a narrow lead late but Chaffey came through this time with a three-pointer forcing the second overtime. Chaffey took charge in the second overtime with a four point lead with 22 seconds left. Sophomore forward
Sean Starkey hit a layup to cut the Chaffey lead by two. After two missed Panther free-throws, Cypress could not come through again as time ran out with a two point Chaffey lead.

Devon McDonald picked up a double-double with ten points and 15 rebounds. Austin and sophomore guard
DuWayne King added 17 points each.
Cypress falls to 1-3 and has a week off before taking on Cerritos. The Falcons are 2-2 and are coming off of a three point loss to Long Beach City. The two will meet up Friday at 7:30 at Cerritos.
