Cerritos, Calif. – The Chargers headed across town to face Cerritos Friday night and found themselves mired in a long battle ripe with fouls. Cypress was able to hold on to their late lead for the 65-62 victory for their second win this year. Sophomore guard DuWayne King led the Chargers going eight for eleven from the field for twenty points.
Cypress won despite poor foul shooting going just 8 for 29 from the field. Three Falcons fouled out leaving Cerritos a bit shorthanded. Cypress had an eight point lead with less than six minutes remaining before the Falcons started a comeback to come within one. Freshman guard Tim Austin put some distance between the two with the last basket of the game to give Cypress the three point lead. The Falcons’ last second three-point attempt just missed as the buzzer went off giving Cypress the win.
Cypress improves to 2-3 on the season and has a few days off before their home debut against El Camino. El Camino is 2-2 on the season. The two meet up Wednesday at 5:30 pm at Cypress.
