Cypress Loses Steam in Second Overtime

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers hosted their first home game Wednesday evening and gave the home crowd a show. Cypress and El Camino stretched action into two overtimes but the Chargers stumbled in the second extra period losing 87-78. Freshman guard Tim Austin paced Cypress with a double-double collecting 14 rebounds along with 11 points.
The Warriors had the lead for most of the first half and ended the first period up three, 33-30. El Camino had control most of the second half until sophomore forward Sean Starkey converted a three-pointer to give Cypress the lead. El Camino kept it close and ended regulation with a layup to tie it up 61-61.
Cypress had the lead for most of the first overtime but could not hold on as the Warriors came through again with a layup to end it 71-71. The Chargers could not keep up in the second OT as El Camino quickly took control taking as much as a ten point lead before finally ending it up nine.
Starkey led the Chargers in scoring with 15 points including three three-pointers. The Chargers spread out the scoring as almost every active Cypress player scored.
Cypress falls to 2-4 and has a week off before hosting again this time against Rio Hondo. The Roadrunners are 2-6 coming off of a 73-65 loss to East Los Angeles. The two will meet up Wednesday at Cypress at 5:30 pm.
