Chargers Hit Century Mark Again in Home Blowout

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress took on Orange Coast Friday night and made it a barn burner scoring over 50 points in both halves. The Chargers made a statement with a 109-82 win over the Pirates. Sophomore guard DuWayne King led Cypress with 17 points, six assists, and seven rebounds.

The Chargers never allowed a Pirate lead jumping ahead early and extending it as the game went on. The blowout started early as Cypress finished the first half with a 24 point lead. Cypress stayed on pace in the second half finishing with a 27 point win.

King led a balanced scoring attack from Cypress with six Chargers scoring in double digits. Freshman guard Tim Austin led Cypress defensively with five steals while scoring 13 points. Sophomore forwards John Staats and Devon McDonald scored 13 points each and combined for 15 rebounds. Sophomore guard Sean Starkey came off the bench to score 11 and sophomore guard Justin Nguyen added 10 points and six assists.

Cypress improves to 12-1 and 2-1 in conference. They move on to take on Saddleback next. The Gauchos are 18-5 and 3-0 in conference on a 14 game win streak. The Chargers will have the tough task of upsetting the Gauchos next Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Saddleback.
