Strong Second Half Carries Cypress to Conference Win

Irvine Valley, Calif. – Cypress was hoping to bounce back from a tough road loss against top ranked Saddleback Wednesday with a win against IVC Friday. The Chargers found what they needed holding the lead through most of the game for the 66-57 win. Sophomore forward Sean Starkey paced Cypress with 11 points.

The match-up started with a back and forth battle which Cypress broke at the 11:09 mark. Freshman forward Devon Adams scored a layup for the lead which Cypress would hold for the rest of the game. After a 30-25 lead at half, Cypress picked up the pace getting ahead by as much as 17 in the second half. The Chargers controlled the pace throughout for the nine point win.

Freshman guard Tim Austin led all scorers with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore forward Devon McDonald also grabbed 12 rebounds and added seven points. Freshman guard Nick Becker and sophomore guard DuWayne King combined for 15 points and five assists.

The Chargers improve to 13-12 and 3-2 in conference. Cypress will take on Fullerton (12-9, 4-1) next. The Hornets are coming off of a two point loss to top ranked Saddleback. Cypress and Fullerton will meet Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Cypress.
