Chargers Close Season at Fullerton

Fullerton, Calif. – Cypress closed their 2008-09 season Friday night taking on first place Fullerton at the Hornet’s Nest. The Chargers lost ground in the second half on the way to a 73-61. Sophomore forward John Staats led all scorers with 24 points and nine rebounds.
The Chargers stuck with the Hornets early going back and forth with five lead changes that ended with a one point Fullerton lead at halftime 30-29. The battle continued early in the second half with Cypress taking a three point lead with 17:41 left on the clock. The Hornets went on a nine point run and never looked back. Cypress stayed close but fell victim to turnovers committing 23 compared to Fullerton’s nine. The Hornets outscored Cypress 21-4 in points off of turnovers on the way to a twelve point loss.
Freshman guard Tim Austin added 17 points and ten rebounds for a double-double as he and Staats combined for 41 of Cypress’s 61 points.
Cypress finishes their season 14-18 and 4-8 in conference in fourth place. They match their overall wins and conference wins from the 2007-08 season.
