Cypress Closes the Regular Season in Narrow Loss

Irvine, Calif. – The Chargers travelled to Irvine Valley Friday to take on the Lasers in their final regular season match. Cypress came up just short falling to IVC 4-3. Cypress was led by freshman forward Bryan Arguello with two goals.
Cypress started behind allowing two straight IVC goals to start. The Chargers cut into the lead with a goal by freshman midfielder Hugo Trejo ending the half 2-1. IVC shot right back in the second half with their third and fourth goals taking a big 4-1 lead. Cypress would not lay down pushing for their second goal as Arguello converted a penalty kick in the 77th minute. After a red card, Cypress was down to just ten players but kept pushing. Sophomore defender Moises Rojas crossed a pass to Arguello for another goal in the final minutes. Cypress could not get the tying goal in time falling by one. Freshman keeper Rafael Verdin picked up five saves.
Cypress and first year head coach Ed Kephart finish the regular season 8-9-4 and 4-7-3 in conference in seventh place. After finishing the first half of conference in first, Cypress went 0-6-1 in the second half making their playoff chances slim.
