Chargers Place Fifth at OEC Championships

Mission Viejo, Calif. - Cypress capped off their regular season with the Orange Empire Conference Championship meet at Saddleback that ran from Thursday to Saturday. The Charger men finished fifth out of the seven conference teams with a score of 339.0. Freshman Damontre Pamilton swam his way to the highest place for the Chargers over the weekend with a third place finish in the 50 M freestyle with a time of 22.21 beating out 13 other swimmers.
Day one kicked the meet off with the 200 M free relay as Cypress placed fourth overall with a time of 1:32.43. Sophomore Raymond Goyena then placed fifth in the 200 IM with a 2:06.88 time. Pamilton then finished third in his 50 M free sprint. The Chargers finished the day with a fifth place finish in the 400 M medley relay with a time of 3:56.05.
The Chargers started day two with the 200 M medley relay where Cypress placed fifth with a time of 1:47.23. Goyena then entered his second individual final where he finished sixth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:35.31. Sophomore Daniel Hackworth entered his first individual championship final and finished eighth with a time of 1:08.35. Pamilton entered his second individual championship final, this time in the 100 M backstroke and finished fifth with a 59.28 finish. Cypress ended the day with the 800 free relay where Cypress placed sixth.
The championship meet culminated on day three. Pamilton entered his third and final individual championship final and placed eighth in the 100 M freestyle with a time of 50.27. Goyena also entered his third and last championship final finishing fourth in the 200 M breaststroke. The entire meet capped off with the 400 free relay where Cypress placed fourth.
The Charger men will hope for individual berths into the State Championships which will be held Thursday to Saturday at Saddleback again.
