Cypress Closes Conference with Two State Qualifiers

Huntington Beach, Calif. - The Chargers swam in their final team meet o the season over the weekend as the Orange Empire Conference came together for the conference championships. Freshman Jeff Tsim led Cypress with a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.77.

The Cypress men had a strong showing on the day as Cypress’s 400 Yard Free Relay and Medley Relay teams both placed third. Tsim also had an impressive showing in the 100 yard Butterfly placing third in conference and breaking a school record set in 1980 with a time of 50.52. Freshman Sonny Hoang was impressive in the 200 yard breastroke in sixth place with a time of 2:17.29. Sophomore Damontre Pamilton finished his career at Cypress with a fifth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle. Freshman Sam Fandrich put together a complete meet with qualifying times in the 500 yard freestyle, the 200 yard freesytle, and the 1650 yard freestyle. On the diving end, freshman Kyle Bowles placed third in the one and three meter diving competitions.

Fandrich and Tsim will both compete in the State Championships at Belmont Shore starting Thursday.
