Cypress Emerges on Top in Upset of Orange Coast

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress hosted a battle of the unbeatens Tuesday afternoon hosting undefeated Orange Coast. With just one team able to remain undefeated, Cypress held on upsetting the third ranked Pirates 7-2. The win also gave Cypress sole possession of first place in conference. Freshman Gabriel Dias clinched the win with a hard fought 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 win in the number four spot.

The Chargers started strong. After a loss in the one spot, sophomore Shane Patel tied it up and remained undefeated in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Freshman Danilo Kelen and sophomores Derek Porter and Deondre Moss followed with wins in their singles matches and with the 4-1 lead, Dias clinched it with his three set win. Cypress added two more in doubles to end the day with a strong win.

Cypress (6-0, 3-0) has a day off before travelling to Saddleback to take on the Gauchos. The two meet at Saddleback at 2:00 pm on Thursday.
