February 25, 2010

Mission Viejo, Calif. - Cypress traveled to Saddleback Thursday as the definitive first place team in conference. The Chargers maintained that spot with a 7-2 win over the Gauchos. Sophomore Deondre Moss led Cypress with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the number three singles spot followed by a 8-5 win in doubles with sophomore partner Shane Patel.

The Gauchos proved tough handing Cypress two losses in singles for the first time this season. Patel ended his career 18 match unbeaten streak in singles with a loss in the number two spot. After a 2-2 tie early in singles play, sophomore Greg Druckenmiller and freshman Lucas Mattos closed out singles strong with wins in the five and six spots.

With a 4-2 lead after singles, Cypress needed to win just one doubles match to clench the victory. Druckenmiller and partner freshman Victor Peinado did just that with an 8-2 win in the third spot. Cypress went on to eventually sweep in doubles.

Cypress (7-0, 4-0) will take a break from conference action to host Santa Barbara tomorrow. The two will meet at Cypress at 2:00 pm Friday.
