Cypress Emerges Victorious in Showdown at Riverside

Riverside, Calif. - Cypress and Riverside split their two meetings last week with two 5-4 finishes and the two finished conference tied as conference co-champs. Thursday’s first meeting of the 2010 season would not be a let down as the marathon match came down to the wire and Cypress emerged on top with a 5-4 win. Sophomore Greg Druckenmiller and freshman Radek Rosiak locked up the match with a doubles win in the third slot 9-8 in extra sets.
The Chargers started with a win from sophomore Shane Patel 6-2, 6-0 in the number two slot. Riverside tied it up winning in the first slot. Cypress streaked ahead with three straight wins from sophomores Deondre Moss, Derek Porter, and freshman Gabriel Dias. A loss in the number six spot closed singles out with Cypress ahead 4-2.
Riverside attempted a comeback in doubles winning the first two before Druckenmiller and Rosiak pulled off the win ending the day with Cypress ahead.
Cypress (9-0, 5-0) maintains their undefeated record and takes sole possession of first place with the win. They have just a day off as they travel to Ventura over the weekend for a non-conference match against the number two ranked team. They will face off at College of the Desert Saturday at 4:00 pm.
