College Participating in 'The Great California ShakeOut' Oct. 21
August 20, 2010 3:31 p.m.
Cypress College will be participating in The Great California ShakeOut on Thursday, October 21, at 10:21 a.m.
Please do not plan any special events, interviews, tests, etc. for this date and time.
The Great California ShakeOut is a chance for all Californians to prepare themselves for major earthquakes. It is estimated that more than 6.9 million Californians participated in the 2009 drill, practicing Drop, Cover, and Hold On and other aspects of family, school, and organizational emergency plans.
"We all must get better prepared for major earthquakes, and also practice how to protect ourselves when they happen," said Karen Cant, vice president of Administrative Services. "The purpose of the ShakeOut is to help people and organizations do both. Schools and colleges have many key roles during disasters, and when we are well prepared all Californians benefit. Also, by holding earthquake drills on the same day, we inspire the participation of many other Californians."
