Women's Volleyball Wins Three Straight to Take Santa Monica Tournament Championship
The Chargers avenged an earlier loss to El Camino.

Santa Monica, Calif. The Chargers traveled to Santa Monica for the long weekend to take on three opponents in the Santa Monica Tournament. Cypress managed to defeat three straight starting with a sweep of host Santa Monica, a revenge win over El Camino in four sets, and then a sweep of Santa Barbara City in the finals to take the championship. Sophomore libero Madison Moss paced Cypress with 45 digs and five aces over the weekend.
Cypress started the action against host Santa Monica on Friday and swept 25-10, 27-25, 25-14. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Boyle led Cypress hitting .579 over three sets with 11 kills. Freshman middle blocker Kelsey Mersey added nine kills and three aces. Sophomore setter Giajaida Vargas picked up 29 assists.
The action continued Saturday as Cypress and El Camino faced off again after a tough five set El Camino victory earlier in the week at Cypress. This time the Chargers emerged with the win taking down El Camino in four sets 25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19. Sophomore opposite Kelly Chiffer led Cypress with 15 kills and six blocks. Boyle followed with 11 kills. Vargas grabbed 64 assists and Moss made produced three aces.
Cypress advanced to the championship match Saturday afternoon against Santa Barbara City in a rematch of the 2009 first round playoff match which Cypress won in five. Cypress finished business much faster this time around winning in three 25-12, 25-23, 25-19. Boyle produced a tournament high 18 kills while freshman outside hitter Stephanie Casillas grabbed a season best eight kills.
