Cypress Strikes Early in Win over Mt. Sac

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers showed off their offensive mettle Tuesday scoring in the first twelve seconds on their way to a 5-2 victory over Mt. Sac. Sophomore midfielder Brittney Elder scored the first and fourth goal to notch her sixth goal of the season to lead Cypress. Sophomore forward Yvonne Vasquez added two assists for her fourth assist of the season.

Cypress struck early with Elder’s goal in the twelfth second after kickoff assisted by sophomore midfielder Tiffany Craig. The Chargers waited until the eighteenth minute to add their second goal by Vasquez. The Mounties fought back with two consecutive goals to tie the game at two. Just before the end of the first, freshman defender Kristen Mosier scored her first collegiate goal give Cypress the lead again.

Elder scored again in the second half ricocheting a ball off a Mt. Sac defender to score. Freshman midfielder Kelsey Chavarria scored the fifth and final goal in the 81st minute. Freshman Jessie Banos also added an assist, her first of the season. Freshman keeper Kassandra Imbrogno notched five saves.

Cypress heads back on the road visiting Cabrillo Friday. The Chargers are now 4-0 and hope to add to their undefeated streak. Cabrillo is 2-2-1 and coming off of a 4-1 win over Chabot. The two will face of Friday at 6:00 pm at Cabrillo.
